I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (More than a year)

Pros

You are doing great work for Cancer research

Cons

Even though it is non-profit, the sr level employees are out to keep their jobs, and that makes for a very unhappy team.

Advice to Management

Quit playing games with donations.

I worked at American Cancer Society as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is competitive when compared to other non-profit companies. The people are great. It is a laid back atmosphere. Everyone works together on major events.

    Cons

Since it is a nationwide organization, you sometimes feel out of touch with upper management. A few times, as a Temp, the full-time staff members didn't acknowledge you or speak to you.

I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work with passionate volunteers that helped you work the long hours. Generous PTO and benefit program.

    Cons

They are going through a transformation and it is a lot of disorganization and down sizing. It is going to take a while before they can right the ship. A lot of night and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Less phone conferences, let your employees get out in the field. Remember the mission.
