    Pros

Fast paced, friendly staff. You work on substantial issues, conduct extensive research, and enjoy learning a lot about the legal field.

    Cons

Work can be an uphill battle (only able to help insofar as existing law and precedent allows for which can be depressing)

I have been working at American Civil Liberties Union part-time

    Pros

Everyone you work with is empathetic and decent human being, no matter where they sit on the hierarchy. They are all there because they want to be there. You also get to engage with a ton of very interesting people who don't work for the ACLU. And you always have interesting conversations when you tell people you meet that you work for the ACLU.

    Cons

The pay is not so great, but it is at least average for a non-profit. You can't realistically ask for too much from that kind of employer. But no one really works for them for the money.

    Advice to Management

The ACLU has a lot of good connections. Management could do a better job helping loyal former employees find work in other areas once/if they decide that's what they want to do. After all, those employees sacrifice a lot when they work for a non-profit like the ACLU.
