I worked at American Dental Partners (More than 3 years)

Pros

I loved my job, the people I worked with, and how much I had the opportunity to learn-helped me to grow professionally.

Cons

Little or no room for growth-seems almost impossible to grow with the company
Low salary
Benefits could be better-no tuition reimbursement program

Advice to Management

Take the time to review your compensation/benefits/training programs for employees-you have alot of young talent with alot of opportunity that would love to grow with the company.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Exposure to a lot of areas in accounting including closing the books, reviewing & distributing financial statements, planning and the opportunity to work with senior management.

    Cons

The environment is very stressful the employees' hard work is rarely recognized. The salaries are mediocre and raises have not been given for many years. There is a poor work life balance. The staff is expected to work a lot of long hours including many nights and weekends. Employee morale is really low and the turnover rate is really high. There is no opportunity for advancement because promotions are rare. This is a dead end job. If you're looking for a successful career, ADP is not the place to find it.

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees competitive wages, promote from within instead of always bringing in someone from outside, automate manual processes, be more flexible & respect that the employees have families by not demanding such long hours.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Great venue for exposure for someone who wants to break into SEC reporting, consolidations and technical accounting.
    Challenging work environment.
CEO is on top of his game, striving to keep employees engaged in and informed about the business of the company.
    Stable and growing business.
High visibility and ability to get exposed to leadership (CFO, CEO, COO).
Direct manager is approcahable, knowledable and willing to share.

    Cons

It comes with the position but lack of flexibility around month end, quarter end and year end (All together 7 months of the year). Nights and weekends work is expected.
Lack of cultural diversity and understanding in senior management within the finance department for people of different nationality. Expect inappropriate and micheal-scott-like comments if you are different.
Lean work environment - the challenge mentioned above comes from the amount of work and not the complexity of the business.
During my time, management style was predominatly by "fear" tactics and focus on the negative.
Very broad and vague performance reviews with very little relevance to actual job development.
Certain employees in managerial positions within the department focus on office politics to compensate for lack of competence.
    High turnover in the past.

    Advice to Management

Work very hard to improve the work environment at the accounting department in the National Resource Group. If you want to have a winning team there I suggest you treat employees like winners. A compay wider tuition reimbursment plan would probably be a good addition to the benefits package especially if you want to appeal to younger crowds.
