Pros

Pay was good when I started Made some friends

Cons

Management only care about the bottom dollar and stats. Total disregard and inhuman treatment towards you when personal circumstances change. Job security depends on stats which are unfairly determined by customer feedback scores which include circumstances beyond the employees' control ie: interest rate, fees.

Advice to Management

Practise what you preach. Value your employees as there would be no company without them

I worked at American Express full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

In the past the company had a genuine interest in employee engagement, delivering on best practice learning, helping you focus on your career and creating lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Managers had a clear framework for what to do as a leader who built engagement and performance and pay were linked to the results. Brilliant. Some of this still exists with individual leaders who really understood this and really lived by it, there are still many great people there today.

    Cons

A complete lack of focus on investment in people over the last few years. The rot began with dropping the ball on genuinely measuring engagement and linking this to peoples remuneration and recognition. Also, has been slow to respond to the necessity of genuine innovation in a fast changing payments environment, lots of half hearted underfunded initiatives and a real lack of leadership or visible understanding of the challenges ahead.

    Advice to Management

Option 1: Recognise you've lost and deliver final sharehaolder value, sell the card portfolio to citi and offload the network to either a new innovative partnershp or just to MasterCard.
Option 2: Ken Chenault; hero to zero in a few short years - did you really sell your soul? Get back in touch with what matters, fire your global leadership team, find and fire the toxic leaders, promote some people with people credentials from within, create an innovation task force reporting directly to you with new blood and 30% under 30)
