I have been working at American Health Care Association full-time

    Pros

AHCA/NCAL is a conscientious employer where management makes a genuine effort to create a positive work environment. Turnover is low, especially relative to most DC work places. Work/life balance seems above average for the industry, which contributes to relatively high morale and loyalty. Very skilled workforce across all teams.

    Cons

The risk of staff burn out seems to be rising as workload increases, with a general expectation that folks find ways to take on more without additional resources.

Staff experience depends a lot on the manager of your particular team, but that's the same as any employer.

    Advice to Management

Member and state affiliate expectations for support with regulatory/reimbursement issues are increasing rapidly; management (including SVPs) needs to have a thoughtful plan -with follow through- to prioritize with existing resources or to increase available resources (i.e., hire more staff). Otherwise, the association needs to be more realistic about saying "No" to requests.

I worked at American Health Care Association full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Little opportunity for advancement and managerial experience.

    Cons

Feeling of division between long-time and new employees. Knowing the history of issues is important.
