I worked at American Income Life full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Unlimited potential for earning a salary if you are willing to put in long hours.

Cons

Trying to work leads, while hiding the fact that you are selling life insurance until your presentation. During the presentation having to say what ever it takes to make the sale.

    Pros

Work-Life balance. You are in control of your income potential and when you work after you achieve your minimum weekly sales.

    Cons

Scheduling appointments can be grueling, but can be worth the effort if you have the tenacity to stick with it.

    Advice to Management

Don't give up so quickly with new agents

I have been working at American Income Life as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is a great company to work for if you want to learn, grow, and be successful. They are looking for the best of the best and specifically people with a positive attitude, which means that everyone you're working with is amazing. They focus on hiring the right people, training them well, and putting systems in place to help them be successful.

Everything is based off production, so it doesn't matter how long you've been with the company, if you're a good producer, you get promoted. They say it's 80% you, 10% training, and 10% luck.

Probably the best thing about this company is they give you leads. Unlike a lot of insurance companies or other sales jobs, you're not contacting everyone you know to try and sell them something. However, the leads are another way they weed people out; if you're not producing, you don't get more leads.

    Cons

It's not a difficult job, but it takes a very specific type of person/personality to do it well and be successful. There is a lot of turnover, simply because those people don't fit the company or the job doesn't suit them. Absolutely give it a shot, but don't be shocked or offended when it doesn't work out.

Like starting a business, there are start up costs. You'll need a laptop with a bag/briefcase, which they don't provide, and some basic office supplies like pens and sticky notes. It depends on where you're working, but there is going to be a lot of gasoline involved as well. It pays for itself as you begin writing business, but there is a lot of driving around to meet with people while you are getting started.

    Advice to Management

Management does a great job investing in their people, but they need to constantly remind themselves to lead by example. Some are better than others at this.
