I worked at American Student Assistance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

ASA has excellent benefits including a Defined Benefit pension plan as well as the equivalent of a profit sharing plan. You do not find those benefits at many private, for profit, companies. Salaries are above average and the educational benefits are very liberal. There are many hard working people in the ISD division and there is an opportunity to work with new technologies.

    Cons

There are too many layers of management and often they do not communicate well. New Projects can get out of control which results in excess monies being spent to keep things on track . The group that maintains the core loan processing application is excellent and works well together. All in all I feel that ASA is an above average working environment.

    Advice to Management

Try and get the politics out of the management team.

I have been working at American Student Assistance full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Commited to work-life balance. Great people and really strong benefits package. Salaries have recently adjusted to align with industry standards despite being non profit.

    Cons

With the elimination of the FFELP program, there is a need to produce additional revenue and the future remains a little uncertain
