I have been working at American University full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

american university is a great place to work. it is a small and intimate university, but still offers many of the services that larger institutions offer.

Cons

there are faculty politics as usual. compensation could be much better.

I have been working at American University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - AU offers good benefits, including a 2-to-1 match on retirement contributions and nil tied tuition remission for employees
    - The office culture where I work is supportive and friendly
    - Practically guaranteed raises every September

    Cons

    - Because the university offices are sort of compartmentalized by specialty/school, the office culture of your particular office can be very different from that f the next office, which is sometimes negative
    - The "guaranteed" raises are not very big
    - Not a lot of room for advancement in most offices - usually about one manager for each office, so if you want to move up without changing to a different type if job you have to wait until your manager leaves
