I have been working at American University part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Among some of the best things about working at American University are the work-life balance, the opportunities to meet friendly people and the interactive community. Students are engaging, professors are genuine, and the school is on the cutting edge of professional development.

Cons

Due to the small number of jobs, there isn't a lot of room to move even once you have acquired more professional skills. Also, there is very little to no interaction between programs, they are very isolated. As well, a lot of turnover.

Advice to Management

Create incentives to take professional development classes by linking them to opportunities for professional advancement. Create a better culture for non academic employees.

I have been working at American University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Good retirement benefits
    -Free-ish education

    Cons

    -Terrible, terrible pay
    -Awful review system
    -Elitist

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the PMP review system, it's not transparent and does not give employees any incentive to become better at their jobs. Rather, the incentive is to begin to do as little as possible because you know there is going to be no reward for hard work. I am looking to leave AU within the next 6 months and go somewhere my efforts are rewarded with a decent paycheck. Also, quit promoting based on education level. A Masters degree is NOT a substitute for common sense. I've never seen so many well-educated idiots in my life.
