I have been working at Amplify full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The people are great, some of the nicest people I've ever worked with, fantastic mission and great work life balance

Cons

Troubles with communication, they let Jerks stay around too long making people the people who work for them leave in droves

Advice to Management

Find out what works in the company and grow that. Don't arbitrarily impose a restructuring that is turning out to be unpopular

    I worked at Amplify full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fast moving start-up culture, lots of opportunities to travel, lots of other perks (e.g. free snacks and drinks, free LL Bean jackets and bags).

    Cons

    Chaotic environment at the whim of reacting to launching a viable product that must swim or sink.

    Employees do not get to share in the creation of the vision or even understand what it truly means for their own roles. Management will tell employees otherwise. However, directives are handed down and employees are expected to race forward with them with no time for thoughtful consideration or discussion.

    Hard for employees to surface what issues they are having and get them resolved.

    If you are looking to experience what the early stages of a start-up is like this may be the place for you. Otherwise, experienced professionals looking for real career development and growth should wait until this company matures and has had a chance to establish some structure.

    Advice to Management

    The tablet/mobile division is running too fast in no real defined direction. Throttle back on the pace forward and take steps to understand who you want to be in the education space and what the customers really need. Don't kid yourself - having some bullet points in a presentation announced at organization wide meetings is not establishing direction. You need someone or a team focusing on creating a good sustainable strategy. When everyone in the organization truly understands and believes in the direction you will have accomplished this. Get senior managers in with real experience with starting and running successful businesses and who have good management skills. Listen to your employees about what needs to be fixed. You have many smart and talented people...use them.

    Pros

    free soda, coffee, juice, good view of brooklyn bridge, lots of smart people, flexible work schedule.

    Cons

    Amplify is not what it used to be. It is starting to become very corporate and highly political fast. There are hardly any raises and recognition for hard work, no respect for those going above and beyond their duties unless you are well connected, and you must be able to play the game of politics well or you will end up disappointed and dissatisfied.

    Advice to Management

    Improve communication between upper management and regular worker drones.
