"hit for most, miss for some"

Pros

Smart and hard-working people who will help you out when you need a hand or otherwise lend moral support. HR involves analysts in the recruiting process and does a good job screening for personality fit (detail-oriented and logical but personable and team player). Who doesn't love seeing their cases in the WSJ? Former analysts who returned are usually good managers. Offices are nice, good facilities and most importantly ever-improving lunch options in Back Bay area. Annual Boston/NYC/Montreal ski trip is a highlight. Analysts generally insulated from dull case administration tasks and can focus on research. Nobody breathing over your shoulder and people generally okay with some personal email or web surfing to decompress as long as you don't bill it. Wow your friends at parties with Excel tricks.

Cons

Easy to get in a rut if you can't get off of tedious cases or dysfunctional teams, must be proactive at finding interesting work and running ASAP from soul numbing projects. Expectations seem to differ across offices with some promoting nearly all their analysts "early" and others none, even though in theory all the partners make these calls. Healthcare work has been spinning off into its own culture for past couple years so analyst unity has taken a hit. Training is piecemeal and strangely timed throughout the year.

Advice to Management

Continue giving analysts flexibility to determine their own paths and having a more hands off approach. Encourage company cohesiveness as it grows through more staff events.

    Pros

Bright people, work is very quant-driven. Lots of learning opportunities in different industries and for different skillsets. My office was very tightly managed and analysts connect with each other very well.

    Cons

Not all people are from Ivy background. Some are from even from less-known state schools. Some analysts struggle to keep up with the quality standard

    Advice to Management

Blend in more with analysts and create inter-position team-building activities
