I have been working at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

I work in the IT department, and have been here for almost 4 years. I have been compensated well, even with the downturn in the economy. I was able to get promoted within 2 years of working here, and I have worked for some great people.

Cons

Too many "reorgs"! Process, process, process! There seem to be so many processes that no work can get done in a decent amount of time. Also, even though this is a very large organization, there is still a "Mom n' Pop" mentality.

    Pros

    free coffee, free air.
    some free junk but not healthy food.

    Cons

    VP ran this place like a sweatshop, requiring people to support around the clock including most weekends, producing below par product for the University of Phoenix, which was not a great place in the first place.
    Its no wonder students are dropping off from enrollment like flies due to lack of quality in the product faculties and students are using daily.
    Most of time and effort are spent doing rework, and asses covering for each other in management.
    Software deployment takes days. Really? is it really rocket science? or bunch of incompetence folks creating emergency situations and solving them at the 47th hour to be heroic?
    Mid-level management collude to protect each others and the product quality suffers and so do the students and faculties, students drop off and thus revenue.
    Lots of gold bricks taking up the office space and not carrying their weights.
    <B>STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! PEOPLE ARE RUNNING MAD FROM THIS PLACE AS THOUGH A FIRE HAS BROKE OUT!!!</B>

    Advice to Management

    Top-Management (CEO, CFO, COO, CMO, CXX):
    CEO and his team need to come down and visit San Jose office, spend a week or two in engineering, study the activities there and see the lack of process, talk and interview individuals, particular in QA who should be watching out for quality. Ask for results, ask for proof of progress, ask for metrics... are you getting the return on investment? Get rid of all Mid-level Management (Director level + VP), bring in fresh blood who can hopefully rectify the crap that have been brewing for past few years.. Need to change the culture here. People are afraid to speak up to improve things.

    Middle-Management (Dirs+VPs):
    you survive by politics, you will be gone by politics.
    no process whatsoever in software development and/or product requirement.
    Bunch of sub-par, incompetence people run the place and spent most of their effort covering up each other assets for major flaws in the product.

    Front-line Management:
    push-back demands and keep things real.

    Individual Contributors:
    If you are not doing any valuable work, excuse your self.
    If you are those that are working more than 24 hours work day, cut back some and enjoy the sunrise and the sunset.
