I worked at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Used to be a GREAT company to work for. Good pay, acceptable benefits - GREAT co-workers.

Cons

Now it is but a shadow of its former self.

Advice to Management

Open your eyes and look at who you have in leadership positions and how thy interact with others. When you see good people jumping ship for no obvious reasons, you should look at the leadership team to see what is driving them away.

I have been working at Apollo Education Group full-time

    Pros

Decent pay, good work life balance.

Workers are generally friendly and easy to get along with - there are no raging a-holes there.

    Cons

Senior executives starting with the CEO are very hands off leading to a lack of accountability from the top down. There is a clear lack of management maturity and that gets reflected in the results.

This organization is overly bureaucratic and treat it's employees like mindless peons. You are constantly bombarded with directives to take this or that training, or acknowledge this or that notice of something or save all your emails so that the czars in legal, HR and IT can all do their CYAs.

Working with the IT team is a disaster - too many meetings requiring too many people (so they become difficult to schedule) and too many approvals and too many people who think they have authority to veto you when they really don't. There are actually many quality people here but how we work is atrocious and managers have no appreciation of the importance of time.

    Advice to Management

Hire a senior executive that can be a real hands on operator.
Make sure he is a tough SOB who won't be afraid to remove (i.e. fire) underskilled senior executives.

Rework the IT organization and focus on speed and time to value, not just cost containment. Think about how IT can add value and be a strategic partner as opposed to just being a cost center.
