I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies full-time

    Pros

Applied has treated me well over the years and rewarded me for quality work. Having a good manager is key. They are fairly flexible and understanding of employee needs and there are opportunities to learn or enhance skills if you are proactive. If your willing to put in some extra time and if you can demonstrate the capability to excel in certain areas you will be provided the added responsibility which will be a strong resume builder.
The new applied website is a step in the right direction of pushing technology.

    Cons

Just because your building skillsets does not mean you'll receive a promotion. You can become stuck in a role despite taking on more responsibility which is then just absorbed by your position. This can lead to discouragement from doing so in the future.
Some benefits have been cut back recently such as profit sharing and a decrease in bonus size.
Brand is not well known outside the industry.
Economic climate poses some challenges to the business.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication between departments. Become leaner and more technology driven. Focus on employee development.

I worked at Applied Industrial Technologies full-time

    Pros

    Great pay
    Travel
    Industrial working environments
    They'll promise you training.

    Cons

No Training. If you don't have an engineering background or your hydraulic certifications, don't bother. They will promise you training, then hand you some books and tell you there's google.
Management isn't helpful. You've got to ask questions, and then you're judged for asking questions. They appear helpful in the beginning, then they watch you fall.
You can work hard and still be asked to leave. Then they'll tell whoever that you've lied on call reports.
No interaction from upper management after you're hired. Chain of command is the only way. And that doesn't work because local management isn't on your side.

    Advice to Management

Don't report exceptional monthly numbers, then fire a guy for poor performance.
Provide goals and the support to learn.
