    I worked at Applied Industrial Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great concept, very good products and solid program to offer to customers. Alot of freedom in developing your territory.

    Cons

    Account Mangers handle all aspects of their territories. Sales, Service(item put away), Administrative duties, Sourcing and Collections. You are going to spend a great deal of your time doing activities that do not generate revenue. In a 100% commission sales role this presents serious problems. You are also responsible for all of your work related expenses. No reimbursement for mileage, no company cell phone or reimbursement. You do get a nifty little handheld scanner/computer but dont count on it to do more than scan barcodes.

    Advice to Management

    Give your Account Managers more support to lighten their workloads so they can sell and generate revenue. Consider offering them even a small base salary or at least cover their expenses. You have a great program to offer your customers. But if you cant retain experienced sellers then you wont be able to gain any traction in the market. Also the staff in the corporate office is very helpful and they work hard. But they are grossly undermanned in customer service and special orders. Getting them more help will also help the Account Managers who dont want to pile more work on people who already have roo much on their plate.
