I have been working at Applied Materials full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Big worldwide company - more opportunities, more chances to see other places around the world. Personal processes (Learning & development, promotion) are well established and continuously evolving.

Cons

Industry is very unstable, takes big dives every 2-3 years making the job security challenging. Share value has been flat in the past years.
Salery is OK compared to other companies.

I have been working at Applied Materials full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Applied Materials is a global company with a vary diverse workforce. Because of its size and presence in the global marketplace, if provides good oppportunities for you to explore different career paths. The company does focus on employee satisfaction and tries to promote a heathly work-life balance. Very competitive compensation benefits as well! Top executives make a good effort to communicate to every employee, with regular web-based and in-person 'town hall' meetings, all employee meetings and even web blogs.

    Cons

Applied's primary business segment is the Semiconductor market, which is a cyclical business. Because of this cyclicality, the industry and company does experience fairly regular 'downturns' in the business. These down turns can put a strain on business performance and can lead to employee turn-over in some cases, but Applied has learned to mangage these downturns better over the years.

    Advice to Management

Continue with the current efforts to regularly communicate company strategy, business results, etc. to all employees. This helps build a culture of trust in the company.

    Pros

Great work atmosphere, people are very knowledgeable and hard working. Very motivated environment. Some of the people I work with make it a very fun place to work at.

    Cons

Business cyclical nature as with any other Semi industry. This is no different that most other industries out there. Recessions and extreme downturns and upturns are a regularity these days.
