Negative Outlook

I have been working at Aptina Imaging full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great facility. Some truly nice people -- made friends for life with many co-workers. Some people really do care. Pay is generally pretty good!

Cons

Eroding customer base due to products that are less and less competitive. Upper management is either blind to or powerless to stop it. Highly political--career success is not based on your accomplishments, but who you kiss in the right place. Recently shed a very, very good CEO.

Advice to Management

Focus on your REAL problem--your products are simply not competitive. Stop blaming sales, marketing, finance, operations...your problem is in your engineering leadership. Fix that. The rest will follow.

Finally, get rid of the BU's. They drive nothing but division.

I worked at Aptina Imaging full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are some really great people at Aptina who are dedicated, hard working, and smart.
The office is in a pretty good location.
    The technology is pretty cool.

    Cons

    There is no accountability here.
Product development is disorganized and chaotic. A serious disconnect between the business groups and engineering leads to late delivery of the wrong products
The executive floor is an ivory tower that is completely disconnected from the worker bees.

    Advice to Management

Shut it down and put everyone out of their misery.
You cannot expect people to keep drinking the koolaid.
The executive team is should have been replaced years ago, middle management is full of favoritism and brown nosers, and the recent layoff seemed to be vindictive about who was targeted.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Aptina Imaging full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There's a lot of opportunity to try and better the current situation. Direct managers are sympathetic to their employees and always willing to listen and try to better the situation. The company has potential for greatness.

    Cons

Aptina's spirit is one of - "Whats wrong with the employees". A constant but steady stream of negative hyper attention flows from the highest management down to every employee. There is no time to better any situation because the entire company spends all of it's time yelling, "Put out the FIRE" and no one calms down enough to find the fire extinguisher. The employees do not have the severely needed time or tools to mature to a proficient level since everything is chaos and budget cutting. Engineers are asked to take on a multitude of products simultaneously while getting constantly nagged at for faster results. Goals set by management are far from realistic and any time spent innovating the current situation is frowned upon. The company tends to chase it's tail and shoot itself in the foot many times over again.

    Advice to Management

Chill-out.. Let the company mature into a proficient profitable machine. Great things don't happen over-night and trying to get apple juice from green apples gives you a bitter after-taste. If juice is in short supply grow more trees (hire more people!).
