Pros

What makes Arista a great company to work for is the culture. A culture of 'doing the right thing', it sounds simple enough, but it is immensely powerful, and everyone follows it. I've seen companies sacrificing on quality for a release deadline. That doesn't happen here, when it comes to software quality it trumps all sales or marketing imposed deadlines.

Arista has the best tools for making a developers life easier. Whether it is source code management, or for running unit tests. A lot of people have put in lots of effort to build infrastructure to make the developers life easy. I've seen new products being released in amazing speed, like 6 to 9 months, which bigger company like cisco would have taken 18 to 24 months to do.

Central to EOS is a meta language that makes writing code easier. Eliminates writing lots of boiler plate code (if you've ever read Effective C++ book, you'll understand the difficulty in writing good C++ code, and this takes care of a lot of it).

Another part of Arista culture is helping fellow engineers and seeking help. Performance review process is designed to encourage engineers to be helpful to others. In previous companies, performance reviews and ratings were pretty much at the mercy of your reporting manager. At Arista there is a democratization of reviews (peer-reviews) which is awesome!

Very hands-on leadership team, most of the infrastructure and tooling were written by engineers who are now in management positions. You won't find a PHB in Arista, and any inputs from management is usually constructive and strategic rather than clueless or political.

Lots of freedom to choose projects to work on. Lots of freedom to switch teams/managers.

Perfect work life balance, there was a crunch time for one quarter when everyone was putting in 50hrs a week, but things have returned to normalcy now.

Cons

Engineering organization is almost flat (few hierarchies), there are no titles for software engineers. It feels like there is no ladder to climb on the technical path. Reviews are conducted anonymously only the manager knows the feedback if you're doing good or awesome. Still, it is difficult to guess where you stand in the ratings because the feedback is subjective and no metric is used in the reviews.

No definite IPO date. 3 CFOs have changed recently.

Compensation not on par with competition.

Advice to Management

Don't bring in outside management who doesn't fit the engineering culture.
Focus on hiring great talented engineers.

I have been working at Arista Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

By far, the most advanced / amazing software architecture and internal tools I've ever seen. Great culture, little management overhead, and a ton of really, really smart people. Lots of flexibility in changing projects, lots of opportunities for learning (from SDN to Linux kernel, to switching ASICs, to Networking protocols, to internal tools, you name it...). A total "engineering culture" (mottos "do the right thing" and "quality is more important than time to market" are not lip service here). If you like developing software, you'll really love it. (There's even a SW development office in San Francisco.)

    Cons

Initial learning curves longer than usual (but you eventually get there..)

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Arista Networks full-time

    Pros

    1. Smart, hard working colleagues
    2. Decent amount of stock
    3. 20 day PTO irrespective of when one joined the company
    4. Office in SF
    5. Very flexible with working from home and SF office
    6. Very good internal tools and infrastructure
    7. Code base is properly organized

    Cons

    1. Very less innovation. You will just implement cisco or juniper features day in and day out.
    2. Low salary
    3. No bonus or 401k contribution or any other perks you can think of
    4. Less than decent health insurance. Very bad dental insurance.
    5. If you are an immigrant then forget about your green card. I heard there are people who have been working here for > 2 years still yet to file labor. Company says they will file but keep postponing with one reason or other.
    6. Growth is slowing down with very few people interested in joining the company
    7. All the bets are on going public which only time will tell

Overall you will like it here if you are a networking guy and dont have any other place to work other than Cisco, Juniper, F10 etc.

    Advice to Management

Don't be a cheap company and try to spend some money on employees
