I have been working at Arizona State University part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great staff and support, caring individuals who understand you are a student worker, in that order.

Cons

The pay was not sufficient for what I needed, may be similar for others.

Advice to Management

Be communicative

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Nice location, having airport, shopping, etc. nearby which is very convenient; Good community with a lot of diversity and activities; Big School.

    Cons

Very inefficient, the system is like a joke because the communication between departments and different levels are really bad. Very hot summer if you can not get away.

    Advice to Management

The current system has to be re-organized so that normal tasks can be completed more efficiently with much less people.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    - good IT support for a public university
    - good library for a public university
    - good classroom spaces

    Cons

Faculty receive very contradictory messages about teaching, research, community service, professional service, academic service, and entrepreneurial activities. There are year-to-year contradictions in the requests and demands made on faculty by department chairs and deans for faculty performance. Worse, if faculty comply with those requests and the priorities change, the lack of performance in one area is used for negative appraisals even though the emphasis on another area was documented as approved by a previous chair or dean. Personnel policies are and department or college bylaws changed without notice.

    Advice to Management

Faculty objectives and plans agreed with a previous chair and dean should be honored by successors. Faculty who are on extended sick leave should have their performance expectations adjusted for their extended abvsences.
