I have been working at Arizona State University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of great people, wonderful and excited students, a lot of school spirit in a great place to live.

    Cons

The school is very focused on business and sports rather than academics. Very low pay for high-level teaching forces many to leave. Department budgets are tiny in comparison to sports and new building budgets ($300 Million for stadium renovations and no money/cuts for academics). Too much of the school's budget is spent on the football stadium/new buildings and too little on crucial teaching and research faculty. The ASU Board of Regents is heavily from the business-community and too little from the academic community. Their business goals are reflected in their monetary decisions.

    Advice to Management

Time for new leadership at all upper levels. President Crow did a great job years ago, but his administration has lost touch with the departments and people who teach the students. The current focus of the school has steered away from academics and core learning. They are losing a lot of good people because of undervalue and poor treatment of faculty and staff and slashing budgets so they can build new buildings and sports stadiums.

I have been working at Arizona State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are many smart as well as hard working people here around you, which can help you focus on your work. The professors here are nice and talented, it is a great pleasure to work with them.

    Cons

Some of the graduate courses are not well prepared, and the most work should be done via learning by oneself.

    Advice to Management

Good place for graduate students to do research.
