Pros

Amazing, creative coworkers (artists), access to a wealth of resources and free classes, good benefits. Access to galleries & museum.

Cons

Pays a bit lower than comparable positions elsewhere. Sometimes excessive politics & bureaucracy...the wheels turn slowly. Artists make funny administrators
 - not a pro or a con.

Advice to Management

Stability is not always a bad thing - sweeping changes can be overwhelming. Take some time to tend to the details.

I worked at Art Institute of Chicago part-time

    Pros

Great colleagues and culture, very enthusiastic, hardworking and passionate people. Freedom to teach whatever you want and teachers are highly encouraged to mentor students one-on-one and exhibit with them professionally. Attentive and serious art students. Pass/fail system prevents grade haggling.

    Cons

Low pay that doesn't account for course preparation or meeting time. Salary only covers in class time. No benefits. About 2-4 hours of unnecessary and unpaid faculty meeting time per semester.

    Advice to Management

Hire more fulltime teachers. Don't require sessional teachers to understand school calendar in order to do academic advising --that's not their job.
