Pros

Amazing, intelligent co-workers. Management that listens and goes to bat for you. Lots of new energy and potential. Willingness to try out new ideas and experiment.

Cons

Long legacy of ups and downs. Disillusionment amongst veteran employees. A very volatile space to work in with a lot of risk in the market. Follow through on new ideas and experiments still unknown, many ideas in the past were shelved without trying them out.

Advice to Management

Explore as many truly new ideas as possible and give employees the resources they need to iterate quickly, test publicly, and fail spectacularly. It's not all about general search any more.

    I worked at Ask.com full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is close to BART, paid vacation policy, very good process, the senior product team is innovative, flexible work hours.

    Cons

The need to come up with products instead of trying to escape from google's radar and making money using using sponsored services. It is not a product based company, it is website just displays ads and makes money. I have seen a write-up from one of the director here, i would not agree his words, wondering why he is replying for others comments and trying to say something to create positive energy. Because they don't make any product . they do copy and paste work.

    Advice to Management

Please get ride of directors and vp's who are not making any value. Get fresh/innovative folks from out side market instead of having product folks who stay with you just because of money. You should give a target to each product director and vp and push them to attain the target. Throw them out, if they are not able to meet your expectation.
