I have been working at Athene full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great environment. Managers take the extra step to make sure you feel valued as a team member. One of the best and most thorough training programs I've been through.

    Cons

Attendance policy is a little too strict. Only 9 occupancies allowed and each occurrence takes a year to fall off your record.

I have been working at Athene full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Growing company, stepped up salaries for CSRs as they complete additional training, incentives are great, benefits are excellent, co-workers are very friendly for the most part

    Cons

They don't hire enough people, even when they've projected major company growth based on upcoming products and promotions, so there is consistently mandatory overtime (not often voluntary). They say they promote a work-life balance, but they have changed many employee benefits since Aviva sold to Athene, so that rather than being employee-centric, the benefits are business-centric with emphasis on our contributions to them rather than the other way around. They have tons of events but CSRs are rarely included in significant ways. Sales is allowed to get away with anything, even if they violate company security in doing so, while CSRs can be fired for security violations. CSRs are tethered to their jobs because they lose a level of pay for relocating to another department, despite having a broad knowledge base that would benefit other departments. The faux environment of continuous improvement and being "driven to do more" is undermined by how difficult it is for a CSR to change departments and move upward instead of laterally -- management specifically makes it hard to prevent such high turnaround.

    Advice to Management

Consider listening to CSRs and the lower level working pawns on how they can improve their productivity; focus on morale in ways other than sugary treats and consider altering QA practices that are asinine for any other department OR change those other departments' practices.

EXAMPLES: Suitability can send out e-mails with policy numbers in the subject lines. CSRs cannot.
Sales can talk to any agent or IMO about any policy, while CSRs follow stringent guidelines to prevent unauthorized parties access to client information. Sales should do sales/pre-sales, maybe some new business, but they're terrible support for inforce policies and sunset products.
Don't prevent CSR job growth opportunities in undermining ways - if someone has been working for you for 5+ years, allow them the opportunity to move around and boost your other departments with their knowledge rather than tethering them to their current position because your turnaround is crap. Fix the turnaround problem, don't lose good employees who would normally remain loyal just because you aren't willing to allow them an upward trajectory for their lives any more than a basic annual % pay increase.
