I worked at Atkins full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Worked with some very good and inspiring people.
Some good employee benefits schemes.

Cons

Still a big boys club in many ways.
Dinosaurs still at the top denying career progression for fresh new talent.

Advice to Management

Value your staff, they really are your best asset. Discontinue the 'everyone is replaceable' attitude.

I have been working at Atkins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Atkins has a pretty good sense of design and has a true global presence. Much of their European designs are very iconic and worth further investigation.

    Cons

Atkins is a brutal company to work for. They have no sense of value of their employees. They are only concerned about the bottom line. If they had the sense to invest a minimal amout of time and money in their employees who do the REAL work they would find that the bottom line would take care of itself. However, working for Atkins you get the sense that you are just a number in the crowd.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the oldschool way of doing business, with integrity, a handshake, a smile, and have genuine value in the employees who make your salary what it is.

I worked at Atkins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Provides global exposure, offers a relaxed office environment, opportunity to work with multi-cultural staff, good opportunities for career development, specialises in multiple disciplines and therefore provides tremendous multi disciplinary development options.

    Cons

As with all companies talent is not appreciated unless asked, the appraisal process is elaborate but the results can be a bit of a disappointment, since it is a large company there can be a feeling of working in silos
