Great Benefits, rewarding work environment, great co-workers. Once you are aware of how things work within the governmental system, it is an involved and rewarding place to work. Make friends who know how to handle the paperwork and watch your worries disappear.
Cons
Government Paperwork, culture varies between departments and sometimes even within departments. People work on different hourly schedules and it is often impossible to get things done on the same day during normal (or even banking business hours) because key employees are not working the same hours ... Time in job is rewarded more than merit and achievements. If pursuing as a full career, be ready to switch job positions/ departments every other year or so to get appropriate raises, and new appointments.
