I worked at Auto Club of Southern California full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

They offer good benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, matching 401K, and quarterly bonuses based on performance ratings.

Cons

The Emergency Roadside call center is a constant revolving door of employees. Most leave because the hourly pay is low and they feel the evaluation process for getting raises and bonuses is unfair. The morale is very low because employees feel they are treated like a number and the local management only cares about survey results and getting their bonuses. Employees on the phones can be rated low in satisfaction based on a driver's actions, which they have little control over. Someone can be disciplined or fired based on someone else's poor performance. The computers are old and make it difficult to meet the short call length expectations. Employees feel their suggestions fall on deaf ears.

Advice to Management

Employee recognition should be more frequent and sincere. Management should get more front line employees involved and encourage them to give feedback and actually use some of their suggestions. Employees feel there is no chance of advancement because they see most jobs going to friends or favorites of the team managers and not to the most qualified candidates.

I have been working at Auto Club of Southern California full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Job security, they don't fire anyone if they are afraid of a lawsuit.
Pension if you can stand to stay there long enough.

    Cons

Treat employees very poorly. Managers and above have all power.
Every manager fights with the others, no collaboration, no support. There is NO teamwork.
    Bullies rule and are promoted.

They have no idea what Project Management is, or resource management or performance based reviews.

Good people come and go, and management doesn't care.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees, or you will end up with only tenured employees who will retire.
This will leave the company without experience and completely out of date for the new work force.

    Pros

The pay and benefits are excellent. They even have a pension plan in addition to the 401k.

    Cons

In the sales environment there is a disconnect between the district offices and the headquarters.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
