I worked at AutoZone part-time (More than a year)

Pros

20% Discount on almost everything in the store
Flexible Scheduling
Great way to start learning about cars
Staff was very helpful when answers to questions were needed.

Cons

I was worked like a horse.
You are required to work days and nights.
Employees are hired with absolutely zero automotive experience.

Advice to Management

If you say you're going to promote, stick to it. I got tired of getting the run around.

I have been working at AutoZone full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers, discount on parts, meet people with similar interests.

    Cons

Obsolete management philosophy, weak information systems, ethics are discouraged. Management believes in shaming employees in order to drive increased sales of damaging "wittdjr" items.

    Advice to Management

Successful companies find ways to improve communication internally and externally. A recent survey of employees was completed but where is the result? Open the channels of communication and for God's Sake stop pushing those stupid packets! Most of them damage the parts they are used on and short out electrical devices. Customers are not as stupid as you think they are, they have the internet, they have other options. How many fuel pump damage lawsuits are resulting from pushing "injector cleaners" on people.

    Pros

    20% Discount on parts
    Pays for ASE Parts Certification
Store has heat and air conditioning

    Cons

    Low pay
Will be asked/forced to work almost every weekend
Asked to pressure customers to purchase unnecessary items
    Lack of properly trained employees
Being forced to install parts you sold to customers for free with none of the proper tools to do the job
    Employee purchased uniforms

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring employees that do not know anything about cars to sell parts. Leave them at the Sunoco that they came from.
    Increase pay
Stop trying to force employees to sell a packet of grease
