I worked at Avaya full-time (More than a year)

Pros

people are dedicated and want to do a good job
office environment is okay

Cons

very heavy workload
management focused on chasing quarterly performance at the risk of hurting company's long term viability
lack of IT investment/integration affects ability to perform tasks efficiently

Advice to Management

convince investors to allow time to develop a viable long term strategy; postpone dreams of an IPO
invest in your people - they are your most valuable resource
you cannot be "best in class" with employee to sales ratio if you do not invest in IT and other systems/processes to streamline workload.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It could be worse, you could be in a concentration camp.

    Cons

Three years rnaked by Avaya as a top performer, never one bonus. Avaya always has reasons for not paying bonuses. In two years, with forced unpaid furlough of two weeks, I didn't even earn my base salary. The HR department was outsourced to India, so having anything done as an employee is impossible. Highly political organization with little room for advancement due to constant layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Only work here if you have no other alternative, The firm is $7 billion in debt, it isn't IPO'ing anytime soon. The entire senior management staff needs the boot, then a sale to a hardware manufacturer.

    Pros

Benefits, pay, if willing to relocate can seek career growth with move. Union employer which can benefit management position due to labor contract.

    Cons

No job security. been off shoring for over 8 years. when went private the focus was cut experience for less knowledge support for other country based support. Lost existing base business to Cisco since leadership elected to be followers instead of leaders in the business.

    Advice to Management

Drop the Cisco and general electric want a be mind set.
