I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great technology and flexibility in working from home.

    Cons

All decisions for the last 3 years were made to make the quarterly numbers look as good as possible in support of an IPO, but that didn't happen. Now leadership has to figure out how to salvage the business after all the incompetence, neglect, and short sighted focus on selling a sinking ship to the public. Creative thinking only goes as far as another round of layoffs. Acquired technology is slowly killed off even when it's more advanced and evolved than the alternatives. There are more senior level employees that manage customer escalations than there are engineers to solve the issues and prevent the escalations. Avaya continues to trend down as Cisco contiues to climb.

    Advice to Management

Quit and don't take all the money with you.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great people - interesting challenges
    Good work/life balance
Decent benefits but they have been devalued in last few years
Overall an acceptable employer give the market out there. Once the economy turns around, Avaya will need to start investing more in its people.

    Cons

Management is unwilling to invest in new software
Blind acceptance of what other groups do
    Lack of information-sharing between silos

    Advice to Management

Focus on the people. Layoffs aren't the solution.
