I worked at Avaya full-time (More than a year)

Pros

I learned a lot from being on the manufacturer side of the IT industry. Very much enjoyed the sales team and coworkers.

Cons

Too much short term focus on achieving numbers. Not a bad thing to do necessarily, but if not mixed with appropriate long term biz dev efforts, as well as being hamstrung by "quicker than usual" industry changes, it generally proves to be an overall downward trend in sales.

Advice to Management

Get out of the "box selling" business. Make better attempts at residual revenues than the old "maintenance" model.

I worked at Avaya full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Avaya has amazing people and solid technology; the customers are terrific and the base of customers is extensive. The Day 2 support is best in the industry.

    Cons

The executives made some bone-head decisions and have focused recently on the mid-market instead of large and/or super-enterprise. As an account manager in the super-enterprise space, this was frustrating. The Nortel acquisition, in hindsight, was a distraction and allowed for Avaya's competitors to catch up and take market share.

    Advice to Management

Stop living in the past; do what's right for your customer.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The contact center business is the shining star, great products, good people, virtual office/home office is great, teams collaborate (even virtual teams)

    Cons

Frequent re-organization, employee moral is currently low, 401k match

    Advice to Management

Create a plan for future success and stick to it. More focus on Contact Center.
