    I worked at Avaya full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Avaya ended up with some pretty solid technology following the Nortel Enterprise acquisition; combined with some of their own legacy products, it has a lot of potential
    - excellent people at the working level
    - good vision at the very top, depends how it can execute on it

    Cons

    - Avaya still carries a lot of Lucent / AT&T fat in terms of middle management; it is ridiculous how a high tech company can be so bureaucratic and what a central role politics can play
    - executive vision seems to get lost as it trickles down through the management layers; lots of inconsistent decisions reach down to the working level

    Advice to Management

    Moving work to low cost centers is not the way to cut it; instead, pay attention to the efficiencies being lost due to redundant management. Lean anyone?

    I worked at Avaya full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The technology that Avaya purchased from Nortel is outstanding...VoIP switching, the Nortel enterprise data portfolio including ERS 8600 family, Contact Center and IVR technology is rock solid. Not sure if Avaya is putting enough attention on the data portfolio though...I hope so.

    Cons

    Too focused on upcoming IPO possibility..this turns the focus into making profits look better than they actually are and usually the first thing to go is customer support resources.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on data and focus on the customer
