    Pros

Pay and benefits were good. Some of the people were technically excellent and actually dedicated to the stated mission of "Protecting those who protect us." even to the detriment of their own careers. Islands of absolute professionalism.

    Cons

Bureaucracy and egos seemed to dominate in middle and upper management to the detriment of the company and those working under those levels. A sea of inertia and frankly a "good enough for government work" attitude seemed to surround a few bastions of dedicatation and professionalism. To top it off, there was a pervasive arrogance that the customer (primarily DoD) could not go anywhere else for the products that they needed, extending not just to the sophistication of the products being offered but the quality as well.

    Advice to Management

Dated but "internally championed" technology and poor production quality have been coupled with a top heavy and very rice-bowl-oriented bureaucracy and the non-competitive high cost of BAE products. This just does not get it done today. In an "analog circuit - discrete component" world, it is very difficult for small businesses to challenge Sanders/BAE's position; in today's FPGA/DSP world, anybody with a laptop in their basement is a potential competitor with a LOT less overhead! Forget the "Fulda Gap" mentality and the Cold War/Reganesque spending mindset. Common sense , technical competancy and solid products will in the end win out over legalistic "jailhouse lawyering", influence peddling, and snake oil salesmanship. Learn to compete in the world as it is, or prepare to join other anachronisms on the scrap heap.

    Pros

Hourly pay plus time and a half overtime, and interns are one of the only groups who can easily get permission for overtime. Great people, opportunity to learn about and work with departments outside college major. Every other friday off, and no required start and end time each day since pay is by the hour.

    Cons

Sometimes the only work available for interns is very dull and tedious, because most projects require a security clearance and BAE does not get clearances for interns. No windows until you've been working there full time for about 10-15 years. The lab has lots of big loud machines in it, bring headache medicine your first week until you get used to it.
Getting a full time job at BAE is not any easier having successfully gone through the internship program.

    Advice to Management

Hire your interns! You can save on training costs and you already know we like it there enough to want to stay, so you are less likely to have to find someone to replace us in a year. Interning at one location should be a boost to a resume at any location, not just the department that was originally interned with.
