Pros

The culture is a strong part of BB&T. They make a large investment in training and feedback. I had a great manager, who cared about me both personally and professionally. I always felt respected and supported from within the organization.

Cons

The pressure of the banking industry affects all banks, especially large banks like BB&T. There are expected layoffs looming and some departments including commercial banking are feeling the squeeze. Work life balance in commercial and private banking can be very difficult, especially if you are seen as a top performer. Outside pressure causes the bank to be extremely cautious, which makes change slow and work hours inflexible.

Advice to Management

Keep rewarding the performers and top performers. Encourage more day to day fun as an entire culture.

    Pros

The company has a philosophy of not doing business with companies that practice eminent domain.
The company offers a lot of training.

    Cons

They began to alienate clientele by requiring high balances and fees in checking accounts during a time when a lot of people were already struggling to make ends meet. FMLA means nothing since you can be terminated for having to leave to care for a child covered under FMLA.
A lot of cliques. If you're not part of one then you may have issues. Even if your manager feels that you are ready for the next step in your career path, you can bet there is someone around who is trying to prevent that from happening. Yet, there are others being promoted with less experience.

    Advice to Management

Be fair. Follow the law. And remember to keep your clients first. If you run off your clients and good (award winning) employees why are you in business?

    Pros

    Benefits and pay are competitive.

    Cons

Upper management does not seem to know or care what is going on for the average employee/manager.

    Advice to Management

Get involved more with what is really going on and listen to what is being said. Culture and values need to be consistent.
