I have been working at BCA Academy full-time

    Pros

The teaching staff are really welcoming.

    Cons

Teachers are paid low, and the salary growth is much lower than public school. The turnover rate of teachers this year was approximately fifty percent (this is a really bad sign for any school to work at or send your kids to). The teachers are overworked with little time to plan due to being required to monitor recess time with students, sit and eat lunch with students, as well as be present out at Carline... afterschool with students (teachers are expected to walk each student out to their car(s) and open car doors for them). Additionally, the administration calls countless early morning and often unplanned staff meetings, which take away from teachers being able to prep/plan before the new school day. The school offers minimal teacher in-service days, and expects teacher(s) to pay for all supplies (staples, paperclips, post-it notes, tape, staplers, construction paper, binders..., you name it you have to pay for it). All parent teacher conferences are held after school because the teacher is expected to teach a full-day. Owner and Administration places pressure on teachers to inflate grades, as well as teach students with only a direct-instruction approach. Meaning that teachers are not allowed to implement other teaching methods to help struggling students better understand concepts being taught. Also, any email to parents must first be filtered/edited/approved through the main office before being sent. The school is operated and run like a dictatorship and often time teachers feel unable to speak up due to constant intimidation.

    Advice to Management

Teachers are generally highly educated and deserve to be treated like professionals. Most of the staff feel like they are underpaid, overworked, and undervalued.
