Pros

There are a lot of good people there. Some of the investment-side work can be lucrative (if you can get it). There are some good leaders who know how to make things exciting. BECU is committed to finding new ways to bring more to its members. BECU's customer products are constantly being updated with new features and enhancements to help customers receive more benefits and have a better experience managing their BECU accounts. This makes the atmosphere a bit better than it is at some other places (when working with customers). It's a much better place to work than some of the alternatives in the industry.

Cons

You probably won't get extremely rich. You may not get too much fulfillment from your work, depending on where it is you work and whom you work with.

Advice to Management

Don't forget to talk to people and be willing to implement their input.

I worked at BECU full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The credit union is not-for-profit and gives your job a sense of value. Unlike big banks, you feel that business is conducted with integrity. There are many benefits to working here including unlimited bus pass, great health coverage, retirement planning, discounts on loan rates, and more. Overall, it's a great company to work for and the people make it an enjoyable place to spend your work week.

    Cons

In comparison to bigger financial institutions, the pay is on the median to lower side. There are commission opportunities, so to speak, however they can be a bit challenging. As with many jobs, your boss can make or break your experience. If you have a supportive/knowledgeable manager, you'll love it! If your manager is less attentive/not so knowledgeable, you may look to transfer as soon as possible.

    Advice to Management

Branch Managers should be attentive to their staff and put the staff above themselves. I've seen too many managers lock themselves in their office without the proper communication, leaving the staff feeling helpless and as though their voice isn't being heard. That having been said, there are plenty of managers who excel in growing their staff and making their staff feel valued. More consistency in this area will only grow BECU all the more.
