I have been working at BNY Mellon full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

You will learn about the financial industry to some extent. If you show initiative, drive, and ability, you will be rewarded with more work and responsibility. I wouldn't recommend staying here too long, but there is value here for an early career professional (emphasis on early). Time off is generous; you likely won't be asked to work beyond your scheduled hours.

Cons

The level of competency of some of your co-workers will be shocking. This is a place that the unskilled and unmotivated are permitted to hide/float by. If you don't work in NYC or Pittsburgh, you will be largely ignored. Very low pay compared to industry.

I have been working at BNY Mellon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Tuition Reimbursement.
Good for individuals with little drive who would like to do little and hide in a cubicle.

    Cons

Old fashioned management approach, where you ideas/opinions do not matter. Employees who ask questions and try to bring about change to create efficiencies will get blacklisted. No one really cares to makes things better, everyone is only interested in covering their behind.
Too many layers of management with unclear job responsibilities.
Too large, job functions too structured.
Whatever happens, never reach out to HR for assistance, they are the worst in this company!

    Advice to Management

Break up the departments into smaller companies, it is too large to be centrally managed. Provide the mid-level management team with incentives that will allow for a more efficient workflow, i.e. based incentive compensation off the department/unit's P&L statement.
Focus on employee engagement, align your written code of conduct with your daily practices, and the general culture.
i.e. replace all of your existing HR Business Partners with better trained and ethical employees.

I have been working at BNY Mellon as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great learning experience! Constantly growing more in the company and continually learning more about what other people are doing. Casual culture and very laid back atmosphere.

    Cons

Unknown salary in the industry. Often times there is down time that could be otherwise filled with learning. Awkward management being so laid back, there are often gaps in cultural norm.
