I worked at BP as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Energy is a great industry to work in and BP's a great company to work for. They pay well, have a nice benefits package. There's lots of room to move horizontally across the company and things in the industry are constantly changing. So people rarely find themselves bored with their job.

Cons

BP is known for job cuts due to restructuring and it's definitely not a place where you can accelerate quickly through the company. People tend to be satisfied with staying their long-term, which is good because you'll certainly need to be there a while to move into an manager/executive position. However the slow progression model is necessary because it takes a lot of knowledge and experience to be an executive in such a complex business.

I have been working at BP full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

mutli-national network of professionals; many opportunities to develop your skills; many opportunities for new roles within the company, especially when based in one of the major hub locations such as London or Houston.

    Cons

If you're not based in London or Houston, the opportunities are much smaller, especially if you are in supporting functions such as IT.
