I worked at BT part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

People are really friendly, relaxed atmosphere, flexible working possible, central London location. Interesting time to work for the company, as it continues it's post privatisation transition and branches out into new ventures e.g. TV.

Cons

Company has been cutting perks, though you could argue it is becoming more efficient... I found my line manager could have been a bit better at communicating and giving me feedback.

Advice to Management

Perhaps improve the training and feedback a little

I worked at BT full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Steady company, not challenging - if you like that

    Cons

Being run to lowest cost, focussing on core Telco, no resource for innovation
Lack of business management, middle management are all yes men
No compulsory redundancies so they make it very unpleasant for EVERYONE so people will leave.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the CEO's core objective of share price on his exit; build value in the future of the company

I have been working at BT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

salary paid is above the industry norm. Big name with most people recognising it.

    Cons

They only believe in cost cutting and that may be at your expense.
Managers across the board are ill mannered. I have not seen a single developer who is happy.
Hike in salary is very low. At max 8% if someone perform out of world.
You will be hired saying development work is the core. You end up spending your time taking call that may extend upto 8-9 hours a day.
No onsite. This is contrary to what the managers promise when you are interviewed.
loads of work. No means of redressal. You can't shift accounts.

    Advice to Management

Make it a technolgy company not a managers company. If you are hiring developers then you need to give them right culture to develop.
