Pros

Solid company with good support from parent, MassMutual. Management interested in growth and in changing old insurance culture to a more modern asset manager culture. Bright, friendly people. Very good benefits package.

Cons

Still operates in silos between different product groups. Difficult to encourage data sharing. Springfield rumored to be a bit of "Peyton Place", but I have no personal knowledge of that. IT guys are bright and hard-working but are bureaucratic. Difficult moving out of old passive insurance culture. Managers do play favorites. You are in the inner circle or you are out. Has strange multiple chiefs management structure with 5 people running the business and no ultimate authority

Advice to Management

Encourage cooperation from different products. Penalize backstabbing

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Babson Capital Management as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked there before the merge with Barings Asset Management, so it may be different now, but I really enjoyed my 1.5 years there. I worked in the Finance department, which is a smaller function comprised of a few sub-teams. Managers are very considerate and respect employee needs. They treat good staff with a lot of respect and offer opportunity to improve processes.

    Cons

Work days are longer (9 to 6:30pm) and people do tend to stay late.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work
