I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Large company, variety of jobs/people/locations. Easy to interact with senior management. Oilfield isn't going anywhere.

Cons

Baker Hughes is strangling itself with bureaucracy, voluntarily. New products and ideas are endlessly dissected by unqualified people in countless meetings. The silo type structure hasn't changed since 'Baker One' 4 years ago and the 'divisions' barely acknowledge each others existence.

Advice to Management

Move faster. Don't stifle innovation. Reduce the workload for product development and eliminate the deadwood.

    Pros

Long standing oil tools company with good benefits

    Cons

Too many meetings to get your work done. Negative attitude throughout the company. When dealing with suppliers they use unethical practices. Treat employees unfairly. Negative gossip, they DO NOT LIKE CHANGE.

    Advice to Management

When figuring out best practices, follow through. Treat your employees fairly. Eliminate the negative small-minded attitudes of managers.
