I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time

Pros

Good benefits, decent work locations, and friendly people. If you get a good manager who can drive decisions, things go smoothly.

Cons

Lack of individual responsibility - most people there don't know the meaning of a hard deadline. Middle management heavy so there's plenty of petty politics.

Advice to Management

Most of your middle managers do not know how to manage...and IT is a joke.

I worked at Baker Hughes full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Positive culture, freedom to be ethical in dealings, good work life balance. Excellent technology. Company takes health, safety, environmental, and security concerns very seriously.

    Cons

Career advancement is limited to a narrow group of Golden Children who management places on the "high-pot" list. Making the list has more to do with politics than competency. BHI underperforms its peers in the sector due to management that is overly focused on the current quarter at the expense of long term performance.

    Advice to Management

Gut the "MPQ" process. This process runs counter to the good game upper management talks with respect to long term thinking by making it clear in a thousand subtle ways that the current quarter is the only one that matters to the C-suite. Do something about the politics in the "high-pot" determination process.
