Negative Outlook

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time

Pros

easy tasks, most customers are nice, co workers are nice as well

Cons

Managers expect you to open new credit cards every day even though most people do not want to. Managers pressure the employees too much.

Advice to Management

Promote internally. The people that have been working there longer know the business better than people that are being hired for management from stores like target and sears.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Okay benefits, easy to earn vacation time..hard to actually get the time off, generally good people to work WITH..(not FOR)

    Cons

Horrible management communication. Extremely outrageous goals in regards to the BR card, hourly sales and general expectations of work that needs to be done. When there is a lot going on you MIGHT want to staff appropiately, if you are unable to do, so please realign your expectations of what should be done.
Lack of build-up from managers..this should not be a environment of "'no news is good news"
Management also neeeds to take control of problem issues and not wait for them to go away. Please don't ask me or another associate to take care of things as we are not paid to do so.
Managers also do not step up when they have created or caused an issue, they try to sweep it under the rug and pretend they are working on it when they are actually trying to save their own behinds.
Stand behind your employees..don't throw them under the bus when it was YOUR mistake.

The company is taking a turn in the wrong direction..poor construction of pieces..clothing, handbags, jewery and the cost is going up! Work life balance is non-existent (unless you are the store manager). Working long hours for little pay (even in this economy) is for the birds!

District managers need to visit on a regular basis and not put one "spy" in charge to gather information for you..try coming in..getting to know your associates and get the information for yourself. Try making an educated decision...you might be surprised with the turn out. They are another one who waits for problems to go away.

If you chose BR I wish you luck, you will need it.

    Advice to Management

I think I pretty much covered that above.

    Pros

Open door policy, the benefits are great, paid vacation, great discount on clothes, if you need to move, there is a Banana in almost every city, so transferring is very easy.

    Cons

you start out with a low pay, and a year later when you get your review, they only give you a crappy $0.30.

    Advice to Management

If they want to keep their good employees from looking somewhere else, they should give them a more decent raise.
