I have been working at Banana Republic part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Discount at 3 brands
15 minute breaks
Very flexible schedules
Employee opinion surveys
Employee appreciation month

Cons

Depending on whether you are at an underperforming store or at a flagship, you're experience can either be good or bad. Because of "the power of yes", managers can pick and choose which policies they feel like adhering to that day. No one is ever on the same page.

Advice to Management

This free- for-all environment causes a lot of confusion and double work.

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Time off requests are consistently honored, employee discount is beneficial, employee discount applies to every Gap Inc store, very little fashion knowledge required, fun lower management, ability to transfer to Old Navy or Gap with ease, ability to learn many tasks in retail in a relatively short time, training is informative and effective, benefits (401k and insurance) available to full time staff, great exposure to customer service.

    Cons

Inconsistent hours (0 one week to 30 the next), work schedules for following week received on previous Thursday leaving little room to make arrangments, low pay, no commission despite expensive products, minimal raises, demanding work schedule that has no order, little to no opportunity to advance, low store performance yields severe consequence from upper management, theft is rampant, inexperienced staff that constantly rotates, hiring practices of management questionable, constant harassment by management to enroll customers in Gap Inc credit card or receive no hours or other severe penalty.

    Advice to Management

Hire employees who seem fit for the job, not just people with open availability. Increase raises from 7-15 cents a year to something more substantial. Take responsibility for the overpriced and unattractive products as the reason for low performance, not blame employees based on the number of brand credit cards enrolled. Create a consistent work schedule that we as employees can work our lives around, not assign us completely random shifts and hours. Introduce a more effective store performance-based system for bonus pay to employees. Consider the fact that our pay, at 7.50 dollars an hour, even at 40 hours a week, is still less than 15k a year. Our pay isn't livable by any means. The highest paid employee is 9 dollars an hour after 6 years of employment.

I worked at Banana Republic part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, time and a half on holidays, great policies for employees and a culture that values respect. There are ocassional incentives from the company like free lunch or candy and prizes for meetting certain goals.

    Cons

Selling the bananacard is really annoying and there is too much pressure to meet goals.the
    Pay isn't great either.

    Advice to Management

Lay off the credit card goals a bit because it can encourage unethical behavior.make sure everyone is treated equally. The occasional visits from corporate do not tell the full picture of what goes on in the store. Those standards should be upheld at all times.
