I have been working at Bank of America full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Overall it is a good company to work for. The pay is ok (could be worse, but also better). The benefits are excellent. And as long as you perform there is opportunity for you to move up.

Cons

General rule is to stay 12-18 month in your role, before you can move up. Turn-over for managers and senior managers have been high in the last six months.

    Pros

    Plenty of diversity at this company and they preach it well. It's too bad they don't celebrate holidays like veterans day on the department wall board but grandparents day will make it.

    Cons

    At every turn if they can pull dollars out of your pocket they will. The healthcare plan is horrible, its an old 80/20 plan with huge single or family deductible.

    Advice to Management

    none worth repeating.

    Pros

    The only pro is the pay, of course- seeing as the economy is bad the pay is very decent if you're looking for a job that will keep you afloat.

    You just need to know how to sell really well.

    You do not need a degree in business or banking.

    Very volunteer oriented.

    Cons

    Micro-managing to it's finest! It's one thing to "coach" and direct someone but micro-managing is an entirely different thing.

    The company will NOT let up or ease up on sales of products that are being shoved down customers throats who quite frankly will not get any use out of. They do not and refuse to change their marketing strategy. (in doing so they'll continue to fail- good luck with that!)

    They promise that they will help and support your wanting to "move up" --- these claims are false. They understaff their branches to the point that somehow the managers can't seem to "let you go" meaning moving up would mean that they would lose a teller so they can't. So you suffer. You're overworked, doing tasks that someone in a higher position usually does still making lower pay.

    They claim to have an open policy, meaning you can even "coach" your own manager in wrong behavior or point out anything that she/he did wrong or goes against the usual rigid Bank of America Script (yes I said script) but in actuality, you'll get some lashes of attitude, unjust treatment and so on. And the longer your Manager has been with the company, the worse.

    UNDERSTAFFED- UNDERSTAFFED-UNDERSTAFFED- get read to juggle way too much. Two tellers for four windows? How does that even make any sense? Customers will always be irrate with the wait and you also get timed on how long customers wait. They never offer any help, or fix the problem they will just consistently blame it on the tellers. Two hands, two feet. Customers are trusting you the bank with their money.

    They offer Teller Supervisors to assist tellers on the line and supervise. Yet wait they fail to tell you is that this title is bogus. You are either a teller. Or you're a mid go-fer. Welcoming customers all day and dealing with issues that the manager should be dealing with. Do remember that the title is TELLER SUPERVISOR. So where does that leave supervision? Tellers are left alone waiting for overrides, customer help and anything else in between in limbo looking like fools in front of customers for minutes at a time (remember, you're getting timed !)

    Training is absolutely horrible! How do you expect someone to come into the company and get trained by a computer from beginning to end with all computerized features? The customers are 3d images, your teller drawer, etc. Pathetic. Where is the hands on training? This is a multi bilion dollar bank with customers depending on the tellers firsthand to be able to navigate the system and products. They shut you in room all day for training at your selected branch, no help from anyone besides the prompter from the computer program. That is a huge RISK!!!!!!

    Get ready to live in this place. Late hours, early hours, 30 min break, when legally you're supposed to get one 30 and two 15 when working over 6 hours in massachusetts. And if you work below 6 hours....what break?

    You cannot be yourself. Of course every bank and credit union or financial institution has guidelines to follow but thats the key word "GUIDE" Expect constant negative feedback about not using specific wordage or lingos. Expect to become a robot. CUSTOMERS HATE THAT! CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN ABOUT IT! YET NO ONE CHANGES THIS! (you're losing your customers because they hate the bank's personality)

    Advice to Management

    RE-LAX! make your workers happy and you in turn will have happy customers. It's common sense.

    Brian Moynihan should concentrate on the happiness of the customers and workers just as much as he sends out e-mails over how horrid things are turning but how great the money the company is making is.
