I have been working at Bank of the West full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

A lot of the employees at BOW are genuine, nice people who are lovely to work with.

Cons

Management seems to be going in a direction of pressuring their employees to get more sales all the time. They always emphasized to employees the importance of offering additional products and services, but now they are pressuring employees to pressure customers.

Advice to Management

If you want happy employees and customers, relax the constant sales pressure. Customers don't like to be pressured, and employees don't like doing it.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Bank of the West as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not an evil corporate bank like some of the Wall St. firms that ruined the economy
Relatively laid back atmosphere, management allows for good work/life balance
More concerned with customer satisfaction than most banks.
    Compensation is reasonable.

    Cons

Dysfunctional management within marketing. Due to the high amount of turnover at the top, there was a lack of leadership, consequently morale was low.
In general, there was little excitement among most workers. Seemed like most people were just playing out there time until something better came along, or until retirement or death.
A fair amount of turnover in the year I worked there....indication of low morale/ lack of direction from management.
Unfortunate dependence on fate of parent company BNPP. European debt crisis started to dominate budget discussions. Unlikely things will improve significantly as long as BNPP is stuck with bad Greek debt.

    Advice to Management

Stabilize upper management, people will continue to leave if there is no consistent leadership at the top. Try to make things a little more fun. I know its banking, but still, people need to feel excited about their jobs.
