    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Desoto (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is great team work among employees within each unit. From an employee perspective, the focus is on good outcomes and patient care.

    Cons

The Baptist company does not seem to cherish its greatest asset- the employees (particularly the nurses). Not doing this portrays a lack of compassion to the patients, poor patient safety focus, and causes patient care to be in serious jeopardy.

    Advice to Management

Implement retention bonuses for employees who are there and work diligently, until they are physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted everyday, to help pull you through this major valley! Incentives, such as removal of points from an employee's file, offering cafeteria lunch vouchers, or simply surprising staff with Sonic milkshakes, would go a long way in improving morale and show that you care what we are going through. If people started walking out, you would be in a devastating situation (as it's an already extremely dire situation)! So, start recognizing that and treating staff like you understand that. You cannot MAKE people come in and apply for jobs- that is something you have very little control over. You can, however, control the way you treat the ones that are already there. Remember the saying "a person who feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected"?
