Positive Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Barclays as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

Good pay, people are relatively friendly to work with, not as beaureucratic as other IBs I've worked in

Cons

No staff benefits - i.e. no teabags or milk! everyone has to keep stashes of teabags, sugar, salt, pepper in their drawers, it's ridiculous

Advice to Management

Little things like some snacks or employees benefits like team events make people happier when you don't give them bonuses

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Still in business (after 300 years)
    Still hiring (occasionally)
Still has loyal clients (despite service and reputation issues)
Loads of compliance and "business management" jobs

    Cons

Poor reputation due to recent revelations
Deaf & blind middle and senior management
Middle management churn (every 6 months)
Generally high staff turnover (due to employees leaving, not redundancies)
Too many generals, too few soldiers
    Obsessed with internal meetings
Poor official communication - grapevine is primary source of information on everything
Senior management - seem allergic to direct interaction with rank and file

    Advice to Management

You keep making "good" small decisions which add up to massive disasters. The way the wealth business is currently run, it may not survive the next 5 years.

Stop thinking your employees and clients are below average/sub-standard
Invest in making things better for clients, not just on extracting more revenue from them
Try talking to your team members - not just the middle managers who are focussed on giving you "positive spin"
Change your culture to reward performance not just politicking
You are too focussed on the short term, think long term, about what is best for all stakeholders (clients, shareholders, employees & society)
    Live your self professed values
