I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Better money than some similar jobs. Colleagues tend to be nice and easy to get along with.Gives people a grounding in sales.

Cons

Treated like a robot, very little autonomy or respect. Little to no line of progression, unless you are there for 5+yrs. Very little support from the vast majority of management,

Advice to Management

Upgrade IT systems and give autonomy back to regular workers, remove competitive nature between different channels.

    Pros

    - Long maternity period
    - Great teamwork
    - Colleagues who become your friends

    Cons

    - Dont expect to be rewarded even if you have performed. It is about who you know that will get you promoted in some areas.

    Advice to Management

    - Set standardized process on evaluating performance across the board in the determination of compensation. Promote deserving ones internally.
    - Bring back the culture that it used to be a decade ago.

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good location and with its slow pace things are pretty relaxed.

    Cons

Hard to get to know people, it's a global company and meetings are mostly by phone. Managers don't tend to see the big picture and focus just on their areas. There doesn't seem to be an overall strategy.
Very little or no bonus at all in the IT section, at AVP level anyway.
Only a small pay increase on the additional fixed payment which means no increase in pension payments. Barclays are good at "avoiding" costs in all ways.
IT is behind the times (some boxes still on redhat 3) and budget very small. Not the place to go if you like leading edge technology.
Very process oriented, and pace is slow. A dull place to work.

    Advice to Management

Invest more money in your technology, reward IT staff better (they're not bankers!), and cut processes.
