Pros

Decent pay for fresh graduates.
Colleagues are generally very nice people.
Good Benefits.

Cons

Culture of working long-hours.
A lot of shoe-shining to move up vertically.
Limited prospects working in back-office.
Back-office is being migrated over to India/Africa.
Hires a lot of contractors with the promise of conversion to perm which never really happens.
No Increment/bonus for 2 years for back-office.

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good brand name , very strong presence in Uk and in sub Saharan Africa. Barclays issue has been that its strategy keeps on changing in different regions

    Cons

Unreliable strategy thinking. There is no reliable strategy in various regions that Barclays operates in. The thinking is personality driven instead of being fact driven

    Advice to Management

The geographic and business strategy needs to be thought through and not personality driven.Barclays entry in emerging markets in general needs to be thought through and then followed upon for some time.

I have been working at Barclays full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - No late sittings expected, 35 hour work week
    - Overtime pay for works worked outside contracted hours and hence opportunity to earn more than the base salary
    - Friendly work environment

    Cons

    - Very strict quality control checks and hence difficult quality appraisals resulting in relative difficulty in achieving performance bonuses
    - inconsistency in procedures and processes
    - repeat of process and checks throughout the life cycle of a work project (duplicated responsibilities)

    Advice to Management

To remove disguised unemployment within the processes. There is too much work done incorrectly at the lower level, if they could get work right the first time around, it will help much in the amount of work achieved
