I have been working at Barnard College for more than 3 years

    Pros

Union benefits are excellent. Campus is pleasant. Other employees are generally friendly and interesting. Students are remarkable and often intellecualy stimulating.

    Cons

Management seems on its own track. Bottom line seems to be valued over institutional knowledge/value. Non-faculty staff feel less valued. Pay is low (you're working for benefits).

    Advice to Management

If you put the same energy into learning about your employees feelings, ideas and suggestions that you are putting into getting student, faculty, staff, and community on board with your new expensive library, you would improve employee morale and productivity.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Barnard College part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Diverse environment -Can be creative within limits

    Cons

-Lack of transparency from administration -Lack of respect for student opinions and concerns; wants to control students rather than let them flourish -Not aware that change needs to happen gradually and collaboratively; not a singular decision at the top -Work/life balance is almost non-existent

    Advice to Management

Have honest feedback tables with no repercussions for those involved. Shouldn't be necessary that employees feel afraid to give feedback.
