I have been working at Barnes & Noble part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great coworkers and managers. The majority of my coworkers are recent college graduates or are current college students. Everyone gets along well and we help each other as much as possible. If you are going to work retail, this isn't a bad place to do it. It's a bookstore, so most of your customers are going to be comparatively intelligent and classy folks in relation to other retail jobs you could be working. If you enjoy being around and talking about books with good people, you will enjoy it.

    Cons

The pay is lousy. Minimum wage for myself as a part timer. You could be making more money doing the exact same job with a different company. I make purchase recommendations to customers, sell memberships, sell electronic devices, and place orders for customers on a daily basis. The memberships and nooks are usually something you have to work at to convince them to purchase, similar to any other sales job. I could be doing the exact same thing at Best Buy or another store for more money and perhaps even a commission, but like I said, it is the more relaxed environment, good coworkers, and mostly friendly customers that make me want to stay.
